The Financial Intelligence Authority (FIA) of Malawi is a statutory body established under the Financial Intelligence Act No. 26 of 2021. Headquartered in Lilongwe, it serves as Malawi’s central agency for receiving, analysing, and disseminating financial intelligence related to money laundering, terrorist financing, and other predicate offences. The FIA works closely with law enforcement, regulatory authorities, and reporting entities across Malawi—including banks, casinos, and real estate agents—to strengthen the country’s anti-financial crime framework. It is mandated by the Government of Malawi and operates independently under the oversight of the Ministry of Finance.
