Overview: Reporting to the Head of Projects, you will play a critical role in delivering telecommunications infrastructure and capital projects across Malawi, ensuring successful project execution from inception to completion. You will lead the planning, coordination, implementation, monitoring, and closure of projects while ensuring delivery within scope, budget, quality, and time requirements. The role requires strong leadership, stakeholder management, risk management, and project governance capabilities to drive operational excellence and support business growth.

Key Responsibilities

  • Leading and managing projects through the full project lifecycle, from initiation to completion.
  • Developing project plans, schedules, budgets, and resource requirements.
  • Monitoring project progress and ensuring delivery against agreed milestones and objectives.
  • Identifying, assessing, and mitigating project risks and issues.
  • Ensuring all projects are executed in accordance with Helios Towers Project Management standards and processes.
  • Developing project cost estimates and implementation schedules.
  • Monitoring project expenditure and ensuring compliance with approved budgets.
  • Coordinating materials, subcontractors, equipment, and workforce resources required for project delivery.
  • Driving cost efficiencies and maximizing value creation throughout project execution.
  • Overseeing project quality plans and quality control activities.
  • Ensuring compliance with specifications, engineering drawings, inspection, testing, and commissioning requirements.
  • Monitoring project deliverables to ensure quality standards are achieved and maintained.
  • Providing regular project status updates to internal and external stakeholders.
  • Facilitating project meetings and coordinating communication strategies.
  • Building and maintaining strong relationships with customers, contractors, government authorities, landlords, and local communities.
  • Ensuring alignment of stakeholder expectations throughout project execution.
  • Promoting and maintaining a proactive safety culture across all projects.
  • Ensuring compliance with Helios Towers SHEQ policies, procedures, and standards.
  • Monitoring, reporting, and resolving SHEQ incidents and corrective actions.
  • Ensuring all project stakeholders comply with safety, environmental, and regulatory requirements.
  • Identifying opportunities to improve project delivery methodologies and processes.
  • Supporting capability-building initiatives within the Projects function.
  • Promoting knowledge sharing, coaching, and mentoring across project teams.
  • Contributing to the ongoing enhancement of project governance frameworks and best practices.

Requirements

  • A Degree in Electrical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Project Management, or a related discipline.
  • A minimum of 5 years’ experience managing complex engineering, telecommunications, energy, civil, oil & gas, or capital projects.
  • Demonstrated experience successfully planning, coordinating, and delivering projects within scope, budget, and schedule.
  • Experience managing multiple stakeholders, contractors, and geographically dispersed teams.
  • Strong knowledge of project governance, risk management, and project controls.
  • Experience working in remote environments and challenging operational locations.
  • Experience within telecommunications, infrastructure, engineering, or other asset-intensive industries.
  • Experience working within large or publicly listed organizations is advantageous.
  • Excellent organizational, planning, and project management capabilities.
  • Strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills.
  • Professional Project Management Certification such as PMI, IPMP, CIPM, or equivalent is preferred.
  • Registration with the Malawi Institution of Engineers (MIE) is mandatory.
