Frequently Asked Questions
What qualifications or certifications do I need to become a security guard at Lusubilo Community Care?
Most employers in Malawi require a minimum of a Malawi School Certificate of Education (MSCE) or its equivalent. A valid security guard license from the Malawi Police Service or relevant training from a recognized security institution is typically required. First aid certification and basic fire safety training are often preferred but may be provided on the job.
What are the typical day-to-day responsibilities of a security guard in this role?
Daily duties include patrolling the premises, monitoring entry and exit points, and maintaining visitor logs. You will also respond to emergencies, report suspicious activities, and ensure the safety of staff, clients, and property. Night shifts often require heightened vigilance and regular communication with supervisors.
How does the local work culture affect security guard roles in Malawi?
Respect for hierarchy and clear communication with supervisors are highly valued in Malawian workplaces. Punctuality and reliability are essential, as absenteeism can leave facilities vulnerable. Building trust with community members is also important, especially in care-oriented settings like Lusubilo.
What career progression opportunities exist for security guards in Malawi?
With experience and additional training, you can advance to senior guard, supervisor, or security manager positions. Some guards transition into specialized roles such as corporate security or private investigation. Pursing further certifications in risk management or cybersecurity can open doors to broader opportunities.
What benefits are typically offered to security guards in Malawi?
Benefits vary by employer but often include annual leave, sick leave, and sometimes medical assistance. Larger organizations may offer pension contributions or funeral insurance. Always clarify benefits during the interview process, as informal arrangements are common in smaller organizations.
How should I apply for a security guard position, and what do employers look for?
Submit a clear CV with references, copies of your security license, and educational certificates to the hiring organization. Employers value honesty, physical fitness, and a clean criminal record. Demonstrating reliability and community ties during the interview can strengthen your application significantly.
