Most employers require a diploma or bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or Software Engineering from a recognized Malawian institution like the University of Malawi or Mzuzu University. Certifications in programming languages such as Python, Java, or .NET, plus database management skills, significantly strengthen your application. Practical experience through internships or personal projects is often valued alongside formal credentials.

What are the typical day-to-day responsibilities of a Software Programmer in this role?

You will write, test, and debug code for business applications and internal systems used by the organization. Daily tasks include maintaining existing software, collaborating with teams to gather requirements, and documenting technical processes. You may also troubleshoot user issues and support digital transformation initiatives within the Malawi country office.

How does the local work culture in Malawi affect software development roles at international organizations?

Work culture emphasizes respect for hierarchy, punctuality, and collaborative relationships with colleagues across departments. International organizations like WFP maintain professional standards with regular reporting structures, while also adapting to local contexts such as connectivity challenges and power interruptions.
