CORE NETWORK ENGINEER (experienced)
Reporting to: Manager – Core Networks in the Networks Division
Location: Blantyre, Malawi
Role Purpose
The Core Network Engineer will be responsible for the planning, configuration, optimization, and maintenance of CORE, VAS, and IMS platforms to ensure high availability, scalability, and performance of the mobile network. The role involves designing, integrating, and troubleshooting core network elements, supporting service delivery, and driving continuous improvement of network KPIs.

Key Responsibilities
- Dimension and design CORE/VAS/IMS network elements (MSC, MGW, HLR/HSS, EPC, IMS, VoLTE).
- Participate in capacity planning, network expansions, and new feature integration.
- Configure and integrate new nodes/elements into the core network.
- Execute software upgrades, patches, and migrations in collaboration with vendors.
- Monitor KPIs, analyze performance trends, and implement optimization measures.
- Conduct root cause analysis of recurring issues and propose long-term solutions.
- Provide advanced troubleshooting support for escalated CORE/VAS/IMS incidents.
- Ensure timely resolution of faults and maintain high service availability.
- Prepare technical documentation, configuration records, and compliance reports.
- Ensure adherence to regulatory and organizational standards.
- Work closely with NOC, Customer Care, and vendors for incident resolution.
- Provide technical guidance to junior engineers and surveillance teams.
Requirements
- Bachelor of Science Degree in Telecommunications, Electrical & Electronics Engineering, Information Technology, or related field.
- Minimum 3-5 years’ experience in mobile core network engineering.
- Hands-on experience with EPC, IMS, VoLTE, VAS platforms, and IP-based networks.
- Experience with vendor equipment (Ericsson, Huawei, Nokia, ZTE) preferred.
- Familiarity with network protocols (SIP, Diameter, SS7, GTP, IP/MPLS).
- Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills in complex network environments.
- Ability to plan, design, and optimize core network elements.
