Small and Medium Enterprises Development Corporation (SMEDCO), a parastatal organization established under section 3 of the Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME) Act of 2024 with a mandate of regulating, promoting and developing the Micro Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) sector in Malawi is looking for the services of a well-qualified and highly experienced person to fill a vacant post of Media and Communications Officer (Grade SME 5) tenable at its Head Office in Lilongwe. The successful candidate shall be offered a one-year renewable contract based on performance. Interested applicants must have the following:

Purpose of the Job
To plan and execute both internal and external communications of the Corporation, brand presence and engagement of stakeholders through digital, print and broadcast media.

Key Responsibilities

  • Supporting internal communications and acting as a liaison between management and staff;
  • Drafting Press releases, managing media enquiries and building relationships with journalists and media houses;
  • Managing all Corporation’s social media accounts and website content;
  • Producing articles, marketing materials, brochures and annual reports;
  • Ensuring consistent messaging and branding across all platforms of the Corporation;
  • Planning and Coordinating Public Relations events and awareness campaigns;
  • Tracking media coverage and analyzing engagement metrics;
  • Preparing Communication reports;

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mass Communication, Journalism, Public Relations, Marketing or related field;
  • A Minimum of two (2) years’ relevant experience in Media, Public Relations or Communications;
  • Excellent oral and written language skills of English or Chichewa. Those with knowledge of other local languages shall have added advantage;
  • Practical knowledge of MS Office, Adobe Suite, Canva and Social media management tools;
  • Excellent Presentation Skills;
  • Excellent Photography, Videography and basic video editing skills;
  • Creative, proactive and ability to work under very tight deadlines.
