What are the typical day-to-day responsibilities of a Regional Sales Manager at an agribusiness company?
You will oversee sales teams across multiple districts, set regional targets, and monitor performance against quotas. Daily activities include visiting key accounts, coordinating with distributors, and reporting to headquarters in Lilongwe or Blantyre. You also troubleshoot supply issues and ensure timely product delivery to farmers.
How does work culture and employer expectations differ for sales managers in Malawi compared to other countries?
Malawian employers value personal relationships and community trust, so face-to-face meetings with clients are essential. Punctuality is expected, but flexibility around agricultural seasons is common. You should be prepared to travel extensively on often poor rural roads and adapt to limited technological infrastructure in remote areas.
What career progression opportunities exist for Regional Sales Managers in Malawi's agribusiness sector?
Strong performers typically advance to National Sales Manager or Commercial Director roles within 3-5 years. Some transition into operations management or start their own agribusiness ventures. International NGOs and regional companies like those in Zambia or Mozambique also recruit experienced Malawian sales leaders.

Standard packages usually include medical aid through local providers like MASM or Liberty Health, pension contributions to NICO or Old Mutual, and annual leave of 15-21 days. You may receive a company vehicle or transport allowance given extensive travel requirements. Performance bonuses tied to regional sales targets are common but vary by employer.
How do I apply for a Regional Sales Manager position, and what do Malawian employers prioritize in candidates?
Submit your CV and cover letter through job portals like MyJobo, LinkedIn, or directly via company websites. Employers prioritize proven track records in agricultural input sales, existing relationships with farmer cooperatives, and fluency in Chichewa alongside English. Prepare for multiple interview rounds including field assessments and presentations to senior management.
