Key Responsibilities
- Implementing sustainable agronomic practices with the objective of closing the gap between actual and attainable yield potentials for each field on the estate.
- Supporting adoption and embedding of agreed best practices, frameworks, minimum standards and processes for agronomy.
- Implementing and managing sugar cane agronomic trials (crop nutrition and protection).
- Formulating, communicating and monitoring fertilizer, weed control and ripener programmes including 3rd party contractor management.
- Managing Estate nursery fields, monitoring seed quality, and ensuring regular disease inspections are carried out.
- Managing pests and diseases in all commercial and nursery fields, ensuring that infestations are kept below threshold levels.
- Supporting agronomic optimization by identifying and adopting new technologies and methods and ensuring continuous improvement by implementing agronomic best practices.
- Monitoring trends to understand impact of adopted practices, and refining practices accordingly.
- Complying with Quality and Safety standards in carrying out all duties.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Agriculture / Crop Science/ Agronomy
- 5 years experience in sugar cane agriculture.
- Research orientated with experience in agronomic trials
- A formal business/commercial qualification would be an advantage.
